Finding right tenants crucial for buy-to-let, says expert
An expert on buy-to-let has said that landlords need to choose the
right tenants to succeed.
Tom Entwistle, the editor at landlord portal LandlordZONE, told the
audience at a seminar at the recent Landlord and Buy-to-Let Show in
Birmingham that this is one of the most important decisions a
landlord can make.
He stated: "It is the key to being successful in this business. A
very important part of being a landlord [is] making sure you select
the best tenants you possibly can."
Mr Entwistle added that in his experience only "one in 20" tenants
are bad and in most cases those renting are reliable payers,
enabling the landlord to enjoy a secure income and plan their
future investments.
Figures from the Association of Residential Letting Agents found
that in the three months up to the end of August 2008 the number of
tenants rose by nearly 20 per cent.
